IFOS designs and manufactures innovative optical sensing systems, photonic modules, fiber optic sensors, and environment monitoring subsystems. In the IFOS approach, optical fiber is used not merely as a light pipe, but rather as an active intelligent medium.
Since the company’s inception, IFOS has worked towards creating fully flexible optical sensing networks that can monitor a wide variety of data over a dynamic fiber network. IFOS is taking the lead in optical sensing and will continue to supply innovative, advanced technologies for this market. The IFOS goal is to enable a wide range of sensing needs to be met easily, cost effectively, and transparently to the end user.
IFOS is based in Santa Clara, California. The company was formed in 1996 by its current CEO, Dr. Behzad Moslehi, who graduated from the Stanford University Electrical Engineering Department. At Stanford, Dr. Moslehi performed advanced fiber optics research under Stanford professors John Shaw and Joseph Goodman, and he maintains many strong ties to the University. Dr. Moslehi and (the late) Prof. John Shaw (who served on the IFOS Board of Directors) have been pioneers in the field of fiber optics.
IFOS has leveraged its experienced, multidisciplinary team to develop and commercialize new fiber optic sensing technologies. The company has developed a solid revenue stream through two distinct channels: 1) Over 30 grants and contracts from numerous US Government organizations and agencies and 2) US and International commercial markets. IFOS’s I*Sense® Product Family has already been deployed and accepted by satisfied customers worldwide. IFOS products are sold and supported by an IFOS worldwide sales and marketing team, key Representatives, and selected Strategic Partners.
