- Integrate analog
and digital electronic components into optical sensing system.
- Develop software
packages related to system graphical user interface (GUI), system
operations, and instrumentation.
- Utilize industry
simulation tools for system and application modeling.
- Optimize product
hardware cost and current and planned features capabilities.
- Contribute
technical material to selected proposals to secure program funding.
- Identify creative
solutions to improve system and sensor product offerings.

Electro-Optic Sensor Specialist Position
Intelligent Fiber Optic Systems Corp. (IFOS) designs and manufactures innovative optical sensing systems, photonic modules, fiber optic sensors, and environment monitoring subsystems.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzing, simulating, designing, building, and testing optical-fiber-based sensor elements and systems for commercial and government-funded applications.
- Prototyping and testing customized fiber-optic sensor systems and products
- Participation in other photonic, and electronic systems R&D activities
- Work in multi-disciplinary engineering, operation and administrative teams
- Potential to manage teams, projects, and products
Requirements:
- Top candidates will have a solid understanding of fiber optics and hands-on experience in fiber-based component assembly and system integration for sensing applications.
- Minimum BS degree or equivalent in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or closely related fields with 5+ years Industrial experience in relevant fields.
- Technical experience to include system level as well as detailed level Electro-Optic knowledge, lasers, fiber optic systems analysis and modeling.
- Laboratory experience to include work with a wide range of fiber optics and optical instruments such as: photonic and electronic instrumentation and data capture equipment, including calibration, photon counting systems, measuring dark noise, measuring sensor system noise, and performing linearity response tests.
- Mechanical engineering and packaging design skills desirable.
- Capable of providing leadership for lower level employees.
- Other requirements include: strong communication skills, proficient in writing concise and coherent reports, capable of writing technical proposals, contributing team player, self motivated, professional work attitude and ability to work within schedule and cost requirements.

Electronics Instrumentation and Control Engineer
Responsibilities
The Electronics Instrumentation and Control (EIC) Engineer is responsible for development, design, implementation and maintenance of data acquisition and control electronics. Working with IFOS optical engineers and scientists, the EIC engineer has responsibility for the conception, specification, design, production, installation, test and documentation phases for new and existing product electronics as well as modifications and upgrades of existing experimental lab electronics. The EIC Engineer ensures that electronic systems designed for IFOS products meet the criteria of low noise data acquisition environment, designs digital and analog circuits, creates and tests prototypes, documents designs and test results, and supports low-volume manufacturing. The engineer evaluates potential designs and their feasibility issues, creates and manages project schedules and supervises associates and technicians, when needed. The engineer will also attend to IFOS Labs technical issues and problems.
Required Skills
Applicant should a minimum BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field with over 3 years substantial working experience in electronics design. Understanding of grounding and fabrication techniques, sound electronic technical practices, and strong troubleshooting skills are required. Must have experience in low noise, low drift analog design, use of standard logic components and programmable logic devices. Must have extensive knowledge of electronic CAD tools for schematic capture, circuit simulation, PCB layout and hardware description languages (VHDL is preferred). Must be competent in data analysis with PC software (Matlab, Excel). Familiarity with motion control and multi-channel data acquisition applications, FPGA development environment, knowledge of embedded design and signal processing methods, microcontroller programming and ability to write simple programs (C/C++, VB, or Labview) for electronics testing are highly desirable. Prior experience with current amplifiers, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion, high-speed digital communication standards (USB) and buses (VXI/VME, PXI/PCI) is very helpful. Ability to adjust priorities and schedules and work with individuals with diverse backgrounds is necessary.
